Inaugural program recognizes MassMutual NYC’s philanthropic efforts
Chinese American Planning Council, has received a $10,000 grant from the MassMutual Foundation as part of the Foundation’s inaugural national Firm Community Service Award (CSA) program. The Firm CSA program recognizes firms that have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to their communities. Six grants totaling $45,000 are being awarded to nonprofit organizations on behalf of the selected firms. The grant determination was based on a comprehensive review of each firm’s community engagement strategy and volunteer participation, as well as overall nonprofit support.
The MassMutual Foundation made the grant to the Chinese American Planning Council, a social services organization, in honor of the volunteer efforts of MassMutual NYC (MMNYC). MMNYC is a firm affiliated with MassMutual and is led by Managing Partners Brendan Naughton and Brad Somma. MMNYC has locations in Flushing, Manhattan’s Chinatown, and Brooklyn.
“We are stronger when we come together as a community; our Firm Community Service Awards program recognizes firms embodying this spirit, working with members of their respective neighborhoods, towns, and cities, helping nonprofits with which they are involved grow and thrive,” said Dennis Duquette, head of MassMutual Community Responsibility and president of the MassMutual Foundation. “We are proud of the time and energy MassMutual NYC dedicates to better their community and are delighted to support their great work.”
Founded in 1965, CPC is a social services organization that creates positive social change. Its mission is to empower Asian Americans, immigrants, and low-income communities in New York City by ensuring they have equitable access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive.
"CPC is grateful for the valuable partnership with MassMutual NYC. As the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and anti-Asian hate continue throughout New York City, this generous donation will help CPC to sustain our services that the community needs to build recovery, relief, and resilience from the pandemic," said Wayne Ho, President and CEO of Chinese-American Planning Council.
MassMutual NYC began as three individual firms, each a community cornerstone in its own right, serving the financial needs of the Chinese American population since1982. United as one in early 2020, they have continued to invest in the partnership with CPC to support their local community.
“We’re thrilled that our dedication to the Chinese American Planning Council has been recognized by the MassMutual Foundation,” said Mr. Naughton and Mr. Somma. “Being part of a community is much more than brick-and-mortar presence. Our involvement with CPC has allowed us to touch something much greater. This grant will allow CPC to continue to provide meaningful programming and achieve far-reaching impact as it cements itself as a true pillar of the Asian-American community.”
2021 marks the inaugural year for the Firm CSA program. The Firm CSA program is one of a variety of MassMutual Foundation philanthropic programs in support of nonprofit organizations operating where financial professionals affiliated with MassMutual live and work. Last year, MassMutual and the MassMutual Foundation provided over $20 million in philanthropic support throughout the United States.
